Taylor police tried to stop the driver in the 3700 block of North Main around 3:35 a.m. The suspect fled, heading east down Highway 79. The pursuit continued along Highway 79 through Rockdale, and into Hearne, before the driver headed west on FM 485 toward Cameron.

The chase ended at 4:45 a.m. after police spiked the driver's tires along Highway 77, in front of the Cameron Airport.

During the chase, speeds reportedly got up to 100 mph. Police identified the driver as Steven Lee Gonzales.
