City officials hope to avoid another firework failure

Posted:
WACO - A 4th of July fireworks show that fizzled out. It left thousands of Waco-area residents unhappy, and forced a fireworks company to right a wrong.

Waco park and recreation officials believe they have resolved the issues for this year's show. Preparations have already begun for Friday night's 4th of July extravaganza, including the set up for the highly anticipated fireworks show.

Last year, city officials promised a 30 minute show put on by firework company Atlas Enterprise. But as people sat and waited for the show to go on, they were left wondering why the show ended in just five minutes.

Parks and Recreation officials say an electrical issue caused the problem, but this year it would be different.

"Obviously last year we had some mishaps with the company that we worked with, but we are excited this year. We have been planning for the last several months to make sure we have a top notch show this year," Jonathan Cook, city of Waco community promotions, said.\

The abrupt ending left many people upset. On the Brazos Nights facebook page, locals expressed their frustration and demanded that something would be done. City officials say they have heard all the complaints and promise that there would be no issues this year.

"It is not a joking matter for us, but people often times say 'oh I hope it won't be a dud like last year.' We ensure that we are taking steps to make sure that doesn't happen."

The fireworks show will be put on by Fort Worth-based company, Pyro Shows. They recently bought out the company responsible for last year's fireworks fiasco, and believes they will give a better result. Pyro Shows was also responsible for the fireworks show last December during Waco's Winter Wonderland.

Part of the preparation will include a pre-show walk-through and additional equipment on site. City officials say this year's show will be about 15 to 20 minutes long and will begin at around 10 p.m.
