Man arrested for 20 year old Denver cold case in Temple

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) - After 20 years, a rape victim's family finally has some justice as a Denver cold case comes to a close in Central Texas.

Temple police arrested 56 year-old Donald R. Shores suspected of committing multiple rapes. Police were able to identify the suspect with the help of DNA evidence take 20 years ago.

Shores turned himself into Temple Police Thursday and was booked into the Bell County Jail. His bond is set at $250,000.

In January Shores was picked up on a felony drug charge in Temple. His DNA was then entered into a national database that connected him to the 1994 brutal beating and rape of a 67 year old woman in Denver. That DNA also linked shores to another rape case here in Texas.

Unfortunately, the Colorado victim died 14 years ago from cancer. But Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey says he still needs to be held accountable.

“This is justice for her family and also we believe it will potentially keep other victims from suffering at this mans hands,” says Morrissey. “These are individuals that don’t stop until you stop them.”

Shores will be extradited back to Denver where he will stand trial.

His Texas rape case is still under investigation.
