Jurors Find Man Guilty in Death of High School Student

WACO - A McLennan County jury found Elton Reynoso guilty of murdering University High School student Dominique Garcia two years ago.

Investigators said Garcia was shot and killed after a fight at the intersection of Rolando Avenue and Princeton Street in Waco in May 2012.

The jury reached a verdict after deliberating for over two hours. Reynoso did not show much emotion as Judge Ralph Strother read his fate. However, his family members looked saddened.

Earlier in the afternoon, three eye-witnesses identified Reynoso as Garcia’s shooter from a cell phone picture taken by Garcia.

The defense attorney also put a man on the stand that Reynoso claimed pulled the trigger, Ulysses Cavazos. That man denied being at the scene of the crime or pulling the trigger. He claimed he was at a home nearby but he left the scene when he heard a gun shot.

Reynoso’s sentencing will begin Friday morning. He could face five to 99 years in prison or life in prison.
