Slain Little River Academy police chief remembered

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) - The funeral was held Thursday in Temple for the police chief and lone police officer in Little River-Academy, who was shot dead in the line of duty.

The funeral was held at 10 a.m. Thursday morning at Temple Bible Church for Little River-Academy Police Chief Lee Dixon. After the funeral, full police honors were paid to Dixon at a ceremony at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton.

His former Sheriff in Milam County spoke, saying that Dixon was a great guy and was sorry to see him leave Milam County.

A visitation was held Wednesday night at the Temple church.

Dixon had been on the job for a month when he was shot and killed while answering a report of a man with a gun on June 19.

The suspected shooter, 56-year-old David Risner, was arrested and is expected to face charges. He is jailed without bond in the Bell County Jail.
