Mexican National sentenced for 2013 Mexia murder

MEXIA - A Mexican National who is in the U.S. illegally, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his girlfriend on New Year's Day 2013, and has been sentenced to 41 years in prison.

Manuel Armando "Nacho" Gonzalez pleaded guilty to the murder of Christina Flores, and was sentenced on June 24. He will be eligible for parole after 20 and a half years. After he serves his prison term, he is subject to deportation.

On New Year's Eve 2012, Gonzalez and Flores went to a party on Wilson St. in Mexia, and the couple was seen arguing as they left. Just after 2 a.m. New Year's Day, police were called out to a disturbance call after Gonzalez went into another home. Officers found Gonzalez intoxicated and he had blood on this clothes, with an empty knife sheath on his belt after stabbing Flores multiple times.

Flores was found a block away and she told EMS that Gonzalez had attacked her. She was taken to Parkview Regional Hospital, and later transferred to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where she died.

Flores' three daughters traveled from San Antonio to attend the plea hearing, and one of them took part in a victim impact statement.

“I appreciate the good work of the Mexia Police Department, Mexia Fire Department, EMS, Limestone County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Rangers, and the Department of Public Safety Crime Lab in Waco. They made it possible to get this dangerous man off the street” stated County Attorney Roy DeFriend.
