Summer storm causes street flooding and closures

CENTRAL TEXAS, TX (KXXV) - Afternoon storms in Central Texas Sunday hit hard and fast, causing problems for drivers with streets flooding and road closures, and as of 8 a.m. Monday morning, over 1,000 people are affected by power outages in the Waco area, according to Oncor's outage website.

The first reports of street flooding came in earlier this afternoon from Crawford where parts of FM 185 and 4th Street were temporarily shutdown. Later in the afternoon another storm passed through. It was raining heavily but it didn't last long.

As the storm had passed more reports of street flooding came flowing in from china spring where water over flowed from a nearby creek. The entire intersection of the 4700 block of flat rock Road and the 5400 block of Skeet Eason Drive was underwater.

Drivers who were stopped at the intersection say they'd never seen that area flood that bad before.

At one time a brave cyclist made its way through the water but just a few minutes later that water rose even more.

Waco police blocked off one of the roads but that didn't stop some daring drivers from driving through it.
Trying to drive through flooded roadways is dangerous so remember if you see an undetermined amount of water on the road it's safer just to turn around.
