Woman rescued from Cameron Park cliff

WACO - A woman was stranded on a cliff in Cameron Park and authorities had to scramble to save her.

A woman was walking on a trail near the river in Cameron Park Saturday afternoon. Officials say during the hike she decided to try and climb the rocks because she wanted to see what was up top. At some point, though, she got stuck on the cliffs and had to call for help.

Waco Fire Department, Waco Police Department and a Department of Public Safety helicopter responded to help get her to safety. However, they had some trouble finding her in the rocks, but the helicopter helped them spot her.

"It was very very helpful in locating her because she was in an area that was a little bit hard to see from even below. We did have a boat down on the river and they were not able to see her but the helicopter was able to pretty much pinpoint exactly where she was from where we were and able to get down to her very quickly," assistant Waco Fire chief Chris Pechacek said.

When they did find her, they were able to get her to safety within 15 minutes. Pechacek says she suffered minor injuries like bumps and bruises and a broken spirit.
