Ex-Belton ISD teacher accused of failing to report sexual assault of child

BELTON, TX (KXXV) - Authorities have arrested a 49-year-old former Belton ISD teacher accused of failing to report the sexual assault of a Belton ISD student.

Bell County Sheriff's Investigators with the Special Crime Unit began investigating the sexual assault in March after receiving information from Belton PD. Belton PD discovered the incident had happened in Bell County, but not in Belton.

Sheriff's investigators found that a 25-year-old Belton man had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Belton ISD student. The case was presented to the Bell County District Attorney's Office, but as of June 19, the suspect has not been charged and is not in custody.

During their investigation, investigators discovered that Dona Block, who was a Belton ISD teacher at the time, was aware that the Belton ISD student may have been sexually assaulted.

Under the Texas Family Code, Block, as a Belton ISD employee, was  required to report the sexual abuse, and investigators determined that Block had failed to do so.

Sheriff's Investigators filed the case on June 18, and an arrest warrant was issued for Block for failure to report child abuse or neglect. She surrendered at the Bell County Sheriff's Department on Thursday morning, June 19, and was released after posting $5,000 bond.
