UPDATE: Evacuation order lifted after gas leak in Marlin

MARLIN, TX (KXXV) - As of 1 p.m. Monday:

Residents evacuated due to the gas leak can return to their homes.

An area of Marlin was evacuated for a couple hours after a gas leak was caused by a construction crew hitting a two inch line Monday morning.

The gas leak was on Neumann Dr., off Ward St., in the northern part of Marlin. An Atmos spokesperson confirms an area north of Neumann was evacuated as a precaution.

A construction crew hit a two inch line, which caused the leak. Atmos crews were on the scene to make repairs. The Atmos spokesperson says the repair should go quickly and those evacuated should not have to be gone for too long.

The area affected will be north of Neumann Dr., along Ward St., on a few cross streets. There will be a loss of service downstream of the brake, according to the Atmos spokesperson. Atmos crews will visit each house that loses service and will turn off gas at the meter, tag it, then leave the tag on the door.

The spokesperson says if no one is home when they are set to turn the gas back on, they will leave it turned off with a call back number. Customers will have to do some things before the gas can be turned back on.
