Series of Soave-Focused Seminars Commences with June Tastings in New York and San Francisco
NEW YORK, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Italy's Soave Consortium is excited to announce its new educational initiative, the 2014 Sensational Soave Master Class Series. Led by Master Sommelier Evan Goldstein, the tastings will be held in New York and San Francisco in June and Chicago and Boston in October. The Soave Consortium aims to increase awareness of the region, which is home to Italy's leading white wine, and reconnect with wine consumers in the country's leading markets.
"Most people are unaware that Soave dates back to 1931 when, along with Chianti, it was among the first two regions to be geographically delineated in recognition of its popularity and importance to Italy's wine market," says Giovanni Ponchia of Soave Consortium. "It's quite remarkable that producers had the skillset to recognize the hillside areas which would become the heart of Soave Classico and the source of its outstanding Crus."
Soave's status has climbed since 1931, driven by complex hillside efforts and a new era of quality. Italian publication Gambero Rosso recognized over 90 Soaves in 2013 and awarded half a dozen Soaves with the coveted "Tre Biccheri" designation.
The series of master classes are by invitation only and will allow trade and media in each city the opportunity to discuss and taste through several types of Soave wines from top producers, including varieties of Soave Classico and Soave DOC along with Soave Spumante.
"Soave as one of Veneto's leading wine regions has so much to offer," says Evan Goldstein, Master Sommelier. "It's exciting to be able to share the region's diversity from the complex Cru to luscious reciotos, and from the consistently delicious Classico wines to the relatively rare, but delightful, sparklings."
