Baylor Men’s Golf Head Coach Resigns

Greg Priest departs after 11 years leading the BU program

WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s golf head coach Greg Priest has resigned to become the athletic director at Tyler (Texas) Independent School District, school officials announced Tuesday.

"We are grateful for Greg's leadership and wonderful contributions to Baylor's men's golf program over the past 11 years,” Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw said. “On behalf of his friends and colleagues in the athletics department, I wish him much success and happiness as he leads Tyler ISD's athletics program."

Priest led the Bears to the NCAA Tournament in all 11 years as head coach, extending Baylor’s streak of postseason bids to 17 straight, one of the nation’s longest active streaks. He also took the Bears to the 2010 NCAA Championship, where they finished tied for 25th place.

Priest guided his teams to 16 tournament titles and coached 16 individual tournament champions during his Baylor tenure. His teams finished among the top 10 at NCAA Regionals in five of the last six seasons, including a fifth-place finish at the 2010 NCAA South Central Regional that earned BU a bid to the NCAA Championship.

A Canton, Texas, native, Priest coached a trio of All-Americans in Jeremy Alcorn, Ryan Baca and Joakim Mikkelsen. He coached five players to six total All-Big 12 teams, including Mikkelsen, who won medalist honors at the 2012 Big 12 Championship.

A national search is underway to identify Baylor’s next men’s golf coach.
