Baylor University sues independent alumni group

Posted: Updated:

WACO, Texas (AP) - Baylor University has sued an independent alumni association to stop the group from using the Waco school's name and licensed trademarks.

The lawsuit reportedly targets the Baylor Alumni Association.

The lawsuit filed Friday in Waco says the association has abandoned its original charitable purpose. The suit asks that the association be terminated or reformed and limited to financial aid to Baylor and students.

Baylor in May 2013 notified the association of its intentions to end licensing agreements if a deal to transfer alumni outreach activities to the school wasn't reached. The group missed a December deadline.

The Baylor Alumni Association phone system was full and not accepting messages Tuesday. The president, Keith Starr, previously declined comment.

He's not related to Baylor President Kenneth Starr.
