MILAM COUNTY - A 46-year-old Austin man suspected of several burglaries and thefts in Central Texas, was arrested in Milam County on Wednesday after he fled from police and hid in some area woods.

The Milam County Sheriff's Office got a call of a suspicious vehicle in the area of County Road 418 Wednesday morning. A deputy found the vehicle, but the driver fled from him, and was found a few hours later off County Road 418, near a corn field. The driver then fled again, and deputies lost the truck after he drove into a wooded area, and then fled on foot.

Authorities found that the truck was stolen from Little River-Academy ISD, and the driver was suspected of several burglaries and thefts near Little River-Academy. Authorities surrounded the area, and a DPS helicopter and search dog unit helped with the search.

A few hours after searching, search dogs found the man hiding in thick underbrush and woods more than half a mile away from where he abandoned the stolen truck. David Weir was taken into custody.

He was charged with two counts of felony evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and violation of parole.  Weir is currently being held at the Milam County Jail pending arraignment.
