Two more file in final day for Temple special election

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) - The ballot is set as two more people file for the District 2 city council member special election.

The deadline has come and gone for the special election set for July 19. Two men added their names to the ballot making the candidates Judy Morales, James Zeptner, Gregory Wise and Cynthia Arriaga.

This all comes after Judy Morales stepped down as district two council member after she ran unopposed for the seat in May. Morales pled no contest in late March for destroying public documents. She stepped down in that position before the new election in May. After she did not accept the position she ran unopposed for, the city put on a special election. Morales then put her name on the ballot.

Arriaga, Wise and Zeptner all filed the week of the deadline which was June 4. Wise says he brings an honest voice to the council while Zeptner says he wants to start a new recycling program.

"I felt that one person running for office is not an election. It takes two to vote, you have a choice take it or leave it," Wise said.

"I think I have some good ideas and from what I understand what a city council could do, I think I could make a good improvement to the city of Temple and the community. Because with the recycle program I have in mind we could generate some money towards the city of Temple and most of all for the citizens of Temple," Zeptner said.

Zeptner says he wants to clean up his district. The special election is set for July 19.
