City of Hewitt stepping up efforts to build new city hall and library

HEWITT - The construction of a new Walmart is speeding up the City of Hewitt's efforts to build a new city hall and library.

The Hewitt City Council will vote July 21 on borrowing $6.8 million through certificates of obligation. Most of that would pay for the combination city hall and library, and $2 million would go to street improvements and Warren Park would be enhanced.

City Manager Adam Miles told News Channel 25 that Hewitt expects about $1 million a year in sales tax revenue from the new Walmart being built at I-35 and Sun Valley Blvd.

City leaders say a tax increase will not be necessary.
