Four Big 12 Super Regional Squads Will Serve as Hosts

IRVING, Texas — Four Big 12 teams will serve as NCAA Baseball Championship Super Regional host sites, the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee has announced. Super Regional play begins this Friday, June 6, with the Big 12 comprising one-fourth of the field of 16 and half of the host sites.

Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas and Texas Tech will all serve as hosts and are a combined 102-29 (.779) at home this season.

Since the format began in 1999, this marks just the second time that one conference has had four teams serve as Super Regional hosts. The ACC also had four teams in 2013. At least 50 percent of Super Regional home teams have advanced to the College World Series each year with six or more host squads moving on in nine of the 15 years.

Prior to this season, the Big 12 had never had more than a pair of teams host a Super Regional in the same season. Big 12 teams are 22-10 as regional host sites. This also marks the first time Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech have served as hosts.

Eighty percent of the league’s 2014 postseason participants are advancing to Super Regionals (4-of-5 teams).
