Ford recalls 1.4 million vehicles

Ford is recalling at least 1.4 million vehicles, most of which are popular SUVs that may have steering issues.

The steering issues impact 915,000 Ford Escapes and Mercury Mariners from 2008 to 2011, and 196,000 Ford Explorers from 2011 to 2013. Ford says faulty sensors and electrical connections could cause the vehicles to lose power steering, which increases the risk of a crash. Ford is aware of 20 accidents and 8 injuries that may be related to the steering problems.

196,600 Taurus sedans from model years 2010 through 2014 are also being recalled because corrosion due to road salt could cause the license plate lamp to short circuit, overheat, and cause a fire. Ford believes 18 fires are connected to this issue. One person tried to put out the fire by hand and was injured. This recall goes with vehicles in 20 states, where the specific road salt is used.

Another Ford recall involves floor mats that can be improperly installed and hit the accelerator pedal. 82,500 mats available for the 2006 to 2011 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ.
