SpaceX finishes testing for thruster

MCGREGOR, TX (KXXV) - SpaceX has completed testing for the SuperDraco thruster, which is an engine that will power the Dragon spacecraft's launch escape system and help it land.

The testing program was done at the SpaceX Rocket Development Facility in McGregor. They tested different conditions, including multiple starts and extreme temperatures.

The current Draco engine is currently used on Dragon unmanned flights, but this new rocket would be used on the company's new manned spacecraft.

The engines will also be able to deep throttle, allowing astronauts more precise control, even though the engines will be much more powerful.

The launch is scheduled for 2015.
