Cyclists ride to honor fallen firefighters in West

WEST, TX (KXXV) - The wet weather on Tuesday didn't stop dozens of cyclists from riding to honor fallen firefighters.

First responders from around the country left Eunice, Louisiana on Friday, May 23, bound for a key destination, West.

The Brotherhood Ride is in honor of all firefighters who died in the line of duty. 12 of the 19 first responders who lost their lives on the job in 2013, were at the West Fertilizer Plant.

"We wanted to show them that a year after the incident, that around or about the anniversary, that firefighters and police officers from all across America, that have never been to West, Texas or know anyone from West, Texas, but we felt we wanted to come here and honor them," said Jeff Morse, Brotherhood Ride founder.

The ride was scheduled to arrive in West between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., but the downpour Tuesday forced them to stop in Italy for a short time.
