Residents helps police catch burglar in Temple

TEMPLE - Temple police are thanking a couple of their citizens for helping them catch a burglar.

On Friday, May 23, police were called out to a home in the 900 block of S. 21st St. after the caller confronted a suspected burglar who left out the back of a home. The man dropped the items he had and fled the scene on foot. Officers searched the area, but did not find him.

A couple hours later, Temple PD got another call about a burglary in progress, this time on South 15th St. Using the caller's information, officers set up a perimeter and arrested the accused burglar, Timothy Rice, 35. A K9 unit was sent into the house.

The witness from the previous burglary also identified Rice as the man who broke into the home on S. 21st St.

The Bell County District Attorney's Office reviewed the cases on Sunday, May 25, and issued complaints for Rice. Timothy Rice, of Belton, was arraigned on two counts of burglary of a habitation, and his bond has been set at $75,000 for each count. Rice remains in Bell County Jail.
