A&M Selected for Eighth Straight NCAA Tournament

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M Aggies were selected to participate in their eighth consecutive NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, extending their school-record string.

The Aggies were tabbed as the No. 3 seed in the in the Houston Regional where they will face No. 2 seed Texas in the first day’s action on Friday, May 30. On the second day, A&M will face either host Rice or No. 4 seed George Mason.

It marks the 30th overall appearance for the Aggies in the NCAA Tournament and the eighth appearance in nine years under the direction of head coach Rob Childress.

Texas A&M (33-24) will play Texas in the first meeting between the two long-time conference foes since the Aggies joined the nation’s elite baseball conference for the 2013 campaign. First pitch for the Aggie-Longhorn matchup is slated for 3 pm Central and will be televised on ESPNU.

The Maroon and White and Burnt Orange have met on 363 prior occasions, but this will mark the first-ever meeting in NCAA Championship play.

The Aggies are 179-95-2 all-time against Rice and A&M toppled the Owls, 6-5, in midweek action earlier this season. Texas A&M has never played George Mason.

The winner of the Houston Regional will face the winner of the Baton Rouge Regional in a Super Regional. Teams in the Baton Rouge Region include LSU, Houston, Bryant and Southeastern Louisiana.

The SEC had 10 teams selected for the tournament, the most by one league in the history of the NCAA Tournament.

The ticket allotment for Texas A&M will be very limited, so fans are encouraged to pursue all-session tickets through Rice’s website. All session tickets are $75 each, plus fees, and can be purchased online through Rice at  https://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/rice/EN/buy/browse.   If available, individual session tickets will be sold online by Rice beginning Thursday, May 29.

Regional action begins on Friday, May 30. Times for each game of the regional will be announced in the near future. Make sure and visit AggieAthletics.com for updates.
