MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - A 24-year-old woman has been booked into the McLennan County Jail after leading a DPS trooper on a lengthy chase from Bellmead, through Waco, and into the Hewitt area.

Samanta Angel Day has been charged with evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, and driving with an invalid license. She was also wanted for two outstanding assault warrants and a motion to revoke probation out of Hill County.

DPS Trooper DL Wilson says it started about 5:45 p.m. Thursday, when a trooper noticed a car driving erratically southbound on I-35 in Bellmead. The trooper also noticed the driver was not wearing a seat belt.

He turned on his overhead lights, but the driver refused to stop, and headed south on I-35 at speeds in excess of 85 mph. On the south side of Waco, the driver exited onto the service road, and then turned onto Hewitt Dr., lost control of her car in a curve and wrecked.

Wilson says the driver, later identified as Samanta Day, fled on foot and was taken into custody in a nearby field.

There was also a passenger in the car, but authorities say he complied with troopers and was later released.
