UPDATE: "Bold thieves" commit armed robbery near police station

Posted:
WACO - Two men are on the loose after an armed robbery at a gas station in Waco Wednesday morning.

The Alon store is on Hillcrest.  The Waco Police Department is less than two blocks from there.

Neighbor Pattie Herbert says, "I'm just shocked."

Herbert lives across the street from the Alon store.  She says, "You would think that you'd feel a little more secure with the police station just a couple blocks away, but it almost seems like it's making the criminals be more brave.  I don't know why, but it seems that way."

Police don't know what the bold thieves are trying to prove, but they're asking folks to be alert.

Sgt. Patrick Swanton says, "I think that just goes to show, that for our citizens, vicious criminals like this know no bounds and so that's why it's always important to be cautious of your surroundings, be aware of your surroundings and that violent crime can happen anywhere at any time."

No one was hurt during the robbery, but the thieves made off with cash and cigarettes.  And they're still on the loose.

Swanton says, "Certainly with these two individuals who were that calloused about where they were and were that daring, we want to find out who they are and get those individuals in jail before they end up hurting somebody."

One of the suspects was wearing a gray hoodie. The other, in camouflage.  Both men were wearing black pants, and had black cloth covering their faces.

Anyone with information, is asked to call police.
