WACO -
Mei, a Bornean orangutan at Cameron Park Zoo, gave birth to a girl Saturday night. This is the first baby for 16-year-old Mei and Kerajaan, or KJ, who is 25.

Mei and her baby will stay in the night house to give the two time to bond.

The public will get to help choose a name for the new baby. The possible names are: Batari, which means goddess; Lestari which means eternal; and Cahaya, meaning light or radiance. The three Malaysian names were submitted by the Primate staff members.

People can vote, and the proceeds from donations will go to the Association and Aquariums Great Ape Taxon Advisory Group Conservations Initiative. Details for voting will be posted on the Zoo's website and Facebook page.

The zoo has not yet announced when the baby will make its public debut
. Primate keeper Laura Laverick says they aren't sure when Mei and her baby will be on exhibit. It could be a few days or a few months after the birth, depending on how the two are adjusting.
