17 year old drowns in Lake Belton

BELTON, TX (KXXV) - A 17-year-old's body has been recovered from Lake Belton, after the teenager drowned Saturday evening.

The Bell County Sheriff's Office says a group of kids were having a birthday party at Rogers Park at Lake Belton around 6 p.m. Saturday, without adult supervision. On Sunday, authorities identified the Temple teen as 17-year-old Kentrell Jordan Chandler. Chandler was a Temple High School student.

Bell County spokesperson Donnie Adams says at some point they tried to swim across a cove. When Chandler was in the middle, he started struggling. His friends could not keep him above water, and the teenager drowned in the 20 foot deep water.

A Bell County dive team recovered his body just before 8:30 p.m., and he was pronounced dead just after 9 p.m.
