Deputies no billed for December shooting involving suspected kidnapper

WACO - The six McLennan County Sheriff's Deputies who shot at a kidnapping suspect back in December 2013, have been no billed by a grand jury.

McLennan County Sheriff's Lt. Johnny Spillman was shot in the leg near 12th and Baylor while working on a kidnapping case on December 18, 2013.

At the time, authorities thought Michael Alvarado had allegedly kidnapped Caitlin Betsy McNamara. Alvarado was found inside a storage unit with McNamara, and opened fire on deputies. There was shoot out between Alvarado and deputies. Alvarado ended up in the hospital after being shot.

McLennan County DA Abel Reyna said in a statement, "The actions of the six McLennan County Deputies and one Constable involved in the shooting that took place on December 18, 2013 were reviewed by the McLennan County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury agreed with the Texas Rangers and our office that the conduct of these brave men was justified under the law. It is routine for all officer involved shootings or use of deadly force matters to be reviewed by the grand jury."
