Infant dies following Wednesday morning crash in Waco

WACO - Waco police are investigating the death of a 1-month-old boy who was a passenger of a car involved in a Wednesday morning crash.

Police were on scene for the two vehicle crash that occurred about 7 a.m. Wednesday morning at 11th and Washington in Waco. Police say a Lincoln Town Car was northbound on 11th St. with a man and woman, and their infant child.

The child was having some kind of medical problem, and the parents were on the phone with 911 trying to get the baby to medical help, when their vehicle collided with a Penske rental box truck at 11th and Washington.

The father was driving and received minor injuries. The baby was transported to Hillcrest Hospital and pronounced dead. It is not yet known if the baby died from the medical problem, or from the accident. Police have identified the infant as 1-month-old Jose Perez III. Justice of the Peace DeCluitt has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The Specials Crimes Unit is on scene. The intersection will be closed for at least a couple of hours, while the accident reconstruction team works.
