Waco police investigating "targeted" double homicide, victims identified

WACO, TX (KXXV) - UPDATE: Police have identified the two victims from Tuesday's "targeted" double murder at the Pecan Tree Apartments in Waco.

The two men have been identified as 24-year-old Justin Javier Gonzalez and 30-year-old Ulysses Gonzalez. Both are from the Waco area and the two are cousins.

Two men are dead after a double murder in Waco.  Now police are looking for the killer, or killers.

The shooting happened at the Pecan Tree Apartments at 26th and Grimm around 4:20 Tuesday morning.  Police say neighbors shouldn't be afraid, but some folks are still uneasy.

Jonathan Dossey has lived next to the Pecan Tree Apartments for two years.  Waking up Tuesday morning was a shock.

Dossey says, ""It was pretty scary because I've never seen anything like that.  And I don't want to see anything like that again... The whole street was covered in cops. They had the whole apartment surrounded in the yellow tape and the whole yard was covered in people.  I pretty much just asked what happened and they said two people got shot."

Waco police found those two men, dead inside one of the apartments.

Sgt. Patrick Swanton says, "Obviously it's an unfortunate situation but we don't believe the community is in danger from the individuals involved in this, as we do believe it was a targeted event."

Police are still trying to figure out why the two men were murdered and who is responsible.  No one is in custody.

Sgt. Swanton says, "They have some pretty good leads on it, but nothing we would comment on at this point."

In the meantime, neighbors are trying to stay optimistic.

Dossey says, "I hope they find the people who did it. Hopefully they do."
