Nurse accused of stealing $11,000 worth of drugs from area nursing home

Posted:
WOODWAY - A 30-year-old nurse working at a local nursing home has been arrested for stealing $11,800 worth of drugs, mostly hydrocodone, from the nursing home.

Casey Jean Symank has been charged with theft over $1,500, but under $20,000.

The arrest warrant for Symank came after a lengthy investigation of the drugs disappearing at Regent Care in Woodway. Operators of the facility began noticing discrepancies last April.

Audit records show that the drugs had been dispensed and charged off to as many as 40 different patients.

Police say the thefts were believed to have occurred over the entire period of her employment, beginning in October 2013.

During questioning with police, Symank allegedly told investigators she did not sell the pills, but used them herself.
