UPDATE: Man who died in Temple accident identified

TEMPLE - UPDATE: The driver fatally injured in Thursday’s wreck has been identified as Franklin Schwake, 78, of Moody. The crash remains under investigation.



One man has died from a two vehicle crash at SE HK Dodgen Loop and State Highway 95 in Temple Thursday morning.

First units arrived on the scene of the wreck at 10:35 a.m. Temple fire & rescue, Temple police and Scott & White EMS arrived and found an 18-wheeler truck carrying a load of sand that had collided with a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the name.

The driver of the sand truck was taken to Scott & White Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

DPS and TxDOT officials are on the scene. The Temple police accident reconstruction team is also investigating the crash.

The intersection of the loop and South 95 is currently closed. Traffic south of the crash site is being rerouted on Barnhardt Road; north of the crash is being rerouted to the off ramp.
