BELL COUNTY - A 33-year-old Harker Heights man is behind bars and being held on $500,000 bond for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his ex-wife after she dropped her kids off at school Monday morning.

Multiple agencies responded to a location near 11900 Eagle Nest Rd. and FM 2484 in Bell County about an injured woman who was trying to flag down passing cars.

Bell County deputies arrived on the scene and spoke with a 31-year-old woman who said that her ex-husband, Manuel Antonio Tobar, had kidnapped her and assaulted her. The victim was transported to the Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights.

An investigation done by deputies showed that the victim had dropped her children off at school in Harker Heights about 7:20 a.m., and as she was leaving, Tobar jumped in front of her vehicle and forced his way into the vehicle. Authorities say Tobar forced the vehicle through a gate and came to a stop in an open field near Eagle Nest Rd. and FM 2484.

Tobar is accused of forcing the victim out of the car, then strangling her until she was unconscious. Tobar then fled the scene and was later arrested by Killeen police as he attempted to burglarize a house in Killeen.

Manuel Antonio Tobar has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault, and his bond has been set at $500,000.
