Family of 12 displaced by Marlin house fire

MARLIN - A family of 12 is left without a home and a firefighter had a close call, after a fire breaks out in a Marlin home Sunday.

Firefighter encountered a scary situation as they were battling that fire. An oxygen tank exploded, blowing out one of the walls while a firefighter was inside. Thankfully that firefighter is okay after being checked out by EMS.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Marlin Fire and Volunteer Departments, along with Chilton Volunteer Fire Department responded. A crew stayed behind late to watch the house and make sure that fire doesn't rekindle. It took firefighters more than three hours finally put out those flames

"When you have a large structure like this and of course there was a roof collapse it tends to trap a lot of hidden fires and it's very difficult to access," says Chief Parker. “And of course the high winds today did have a negative effect on fire fighting efforts but we were able to compensate."

Four people were inside when the fire started, but they were all able to get out safely. The rest of the family was in church when they got the call about the fire.

Chief Parker wasn't able to confirm that's how it happened because the cause of the fire is under investigation.
