2,000 acre fire burning in wooded area on Fort Hood

FORT HOOD - Fort Hood officials are on standby as a fire burns in the impact area, far from danger on Fort Hood.

The 2,000 acre fire started at 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning near the Browns multi-use range on the western side of the impact area. Officials say the fire is well contained and no structures or people are in danger. However, the fire is hard to get to so crews cannot put out the flames.

Helicopters are on standby to douse the flames from the air, but high winds have prevented them from dropping any water.
