Fire Chief: 30% of fire on Fort Hood contained

FORT HOOD - Fort Hood Fire Chief Billy Rhoads says the Fort Hood range fires are now 30% contained.

Fire crews are now working two fires that cover nearly 1,000 acres on two different ranges on post. One of the fires is just north of Blackwell Multi-use Range, while the other is on the Lone Star Range, south of North Fort Hood.

Smoke could be seen Monday afternoon after the fire near the Blackwell Multi-use Range area was started by training exercises about 1:30 p.m.

There have been no injuries reported from the fires. Officials say they pose no current danger to any homes or buildings.

Fire crews will continue to fight the fires and monitor hot spots.
