Standoff incident in Killeen ends safely Monday morning

KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) - A 29-year-old man was taken into custody for evaluation following a standoff incident in Killeen that started Monday morning.

Police say the incident occurred in the 4100 block of E. Rancier, about 10:50 a.m. The man had no hostages and was reportedly threatening suicide with a machete.

Police were concerned he might harm himself or others. The man went back into his apartment when officers tried to speak with him. The Tactical Response Unit was called out at 11:11 a.m.

TRU members tried to talk with the man, and shortly after 12 p.m., he came outside and was detained without further incident. Officer found a machete in the home that belonged to the man.

The investigation into the incident determined the man only made threats to harm himself. He was taken to Scott & White Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation.

The name of the man will not be released because will not be charged.
