Waco man arrested after fleeing from police following hit and run

Posted:
A 26-year-old Waco man has been arrested in College Station after police say he hit several cars and ran from police early Thursday morning.

Jacob McKenzie has been charged with evading detention in a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, and three counts of failure to stop and leave information.

Officers were called out to the area of College Main and Church St., just before 2 a.m. Thursday morning, on a reported hit and run crash. An officer was told that one vehicle hit another, then fled northbound on College Main, toward Bryan.

The officer found the suspected vehicle heading the wrong way on College Main, as he hit another vehicle and nearly struck the officer. The suspect crashed into a building near College Main and Old College. The officer then tried to stop him, but the driver reversed and fled into a parking lot.

The suspect then hit a parked car and ran over a gate in the parking lot. The suspect's vehicle was then disabled and the officer took him into custody without further incident.

The Bryan Police Department and the College Station Police Department investigated the incident and determined that the driver, identified as McKenzie, hit three vehicles, one building and the parking lot gate.
