Local collaboration gets praise from Washington

WOODWAY - A collaboration between local schools and law enforcement is getting praise from Washington.  A director at the US Justice Department made a stop in Woodway this morning to with local leaders about school safety.

Ronald Davis is the Director of the Community Oriented Policing Services Office within the US Justice Department.  Davis says the system Woodway, Hewitt, Waco and Midway ISD's have in place could be used as a model for other communities.

Davis says, "At the justice department, we believe our job is to help the field advance the field. There's no special answers that come from D.C. The answers come from communities just like this where they're actually working through their problems and their doing it in a collaboration."

Woodway, Hewitt, Waco and Midway leaders have made it a priority to build strong relationships between schools and police departments.

Davis says that gives them  more constructive disciplinary options other than suspensions and arrests.
