COPPERAS COVE, TX (KXXV) - A Copperas Cove man has been arrested for firing shots toward houses, after he told police that he fired the shots because he was afraid some people would jump him and his friends Thursday night.

Cypress Da'Sean Nolan has been charged with deadly conduct and discharge of a firearm toward a habitation following an incident on Oak Ridge, off FM 1113.

Police say officers responded to a call of a fight and shots fired about 8:15 p.m. They found a 2006 Pontiac with a man inside, with a long barrel 12 gauge shotgun. Police identified the man as Nolan and recovered the shotgun, along with a box of shells and spent shell casings at the scene.

Nolan told police he fired the shots out of fear for his safety because he was afraid that he would be jumped by some people who had approached him and his friends. Police say Nolan would not identify anyone in either group. He told police he fired the weapon in the direction of Northern Dove, where houses were located.
