Rabid skunk found in Hewitt

HEWITT - A skunk that was found in Hewitt Monday afternoon, has tested positive for rabies after it was sent to the Department of State Health Services for testing.

The City of Hewitt Animal Control Officers were called out to a home in the 600 block of Regina Dr. in Hewitt, at 12:30 on April 7, about a skunk seen in the backyard of a home.

Animal Control arrived at the home and trapped the skunk. They noticed the skunk was acting strange and thought it may be infected with rabies.

The skunk was euthanized and sent to the Department of State Health Services for testing. They confirmed that the skunk tested positive for rabies.

Residents say the skunk was seen on Monday, April 7, in the 500 and 600 blocks of Regina Dr. in Hewitt.

Hewitt PD and Hewitt Animal Control urge anyone who thinks they or their pet came in contact with the rabid skunk, to call the Hewitt Police Department Animal Control at (254) 666-1661, the Waco McLennan County Health District at (254) 750-5464, or the Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control at 1 (254) 778-6744
