Bears’ three-series winning streak vs. top 10 foes ends

THE RUNDOWN

AUSTIN – Baylor baseball fell 6-3 at No. 8 Texas on Saturday night at Disch-Falk Field as UT LHP Dillon Peters was too much to handle.  The series loss for the Bears (15-15, 4-6 Big 12) vs. the Longhorns (25-7, 5-3 Big 12) marked the end of BU’s three-series winning streak against Baseball America top 10 teams.

With a 1-1 tie, Texas took the lead for good in the fourth on a Kacy Clemens RBI double.  Then after Duncan Wendel doubled in the sixth and was left stranded, the Longhorns scored a pair in the bottom half on a C.J. Hinojosa sacrifice fly and Zane Gurwitz two-out single.

Baylor responded in the seventh to cut the lead to one on a Logan Brown double and Lawton Langford groundout.  However, UT bounced back with a pair of runs on a Collin Shaw single and Hinojosa sac fly to negate BU’s comeback bid.

Peters (4-2) earned the win as he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk with a career-high nine strikeouts.  Then Morgan Cooper pitched the final three frames, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts to record his third save.  Taking the loss for BU was Austin Stone (3-3), who allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six innings.
