UPDATE: Suspicious device found in Killeen turns out to be fake

KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) - UPDATE: Suspicious device found on truck in Killeen neighborhood turns out to be fake. Killeen PD confirms that the threat was a hoax. The device was not a real explosive.

Fort Hood EOD has tested the IED found on a truck in Killeen. A boom was heard. Killeen PD said those were charges used during the testing.

Neighborhoods have been evacuated and authorities are investigating a suspicious device found in Killeen Thursday morning.

Killeen PD received a call just after 9 a.m. from a man who said there was something taped to his truck when he left his home in the 1500 block of North Gray St.

He sent police a picture of the device and they were able to identify it as an IED. Police then contacted the EOD on Fort Hood, who also identified it as an IED.

Fort Hood EOD is en route to the scene to assist.

Authorities have evacuated all residents between Austin St. and Dean St., and 4th and 8th St. Those who have been evacuated are being taken to the Killeen Community Center until the situation is resolved.

Police do not believe it is connected to yesterday's Fort Hood shooting on post.

The device is described as being a pipe wrapped up with some kind of substance stuffed inside.
