Temple woman accused of stealing $3,000 from employer

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) - Police have arrested a 28-year-old Temple woman accused of stealing approximately $3,000 from a hair salon she worked at.

Mary Jo Smith was charged with theft of property under $20,000 after the case was reviewed by the Bell County District's Attorney.

Officers responded to a reported theft at Smart Styles Hair Salon, located in the 3400 block of S. 31st St. in Temple. Police were told that between May 2013 and January 2014, an employee at the hair salon had been voiding transactions and removing money from the register.

Smith was identified as the only person with access to the register present at the time of the voided transactions. Police say the loss to the hair salon is approximately $3,000.
