TEMPLE - A 29-year-old Temple man is facing multiple charges after police say he dragged a woman from his vehicle late Sunday night, then crashed while fleeing from police.

Mario Alberto Garcia faces charges of aggravated assault and evading arrest with a vehicle for the incident.

Officers were called out to a home in the 5200 block of Whistle Stop Dr. in Temple. A man told police that another man had assaulted his estranged wife.

Police found the female victim at the scene and got a description of the suspect's vehicle. It was later spotted on FM 93, and the driver fled as an officer attempted to stop him.

Police say the driver, later identified as Garcia, was on 190, and Simmons Dr., where he went off the pavement and was driving through a ditch, when the vehicle rolled. Police say Garcia scuffled with officers and was taken into custody. Garcia was not injured, but was transported to Scott & White Hospital for evaluation.

As officers went back and put the events together, it was determined that Garcia and the female victim were arguing, when she was assaulted. Police say at one point, Garcia got into his car, then grabbed her from inside the car and drove off, dragging her.

She was able to break loose and was injured as she fell from the car.
