Man arrested after threatening to kill girlfriend if she didn't marry him

WACO, TX (KXXV) - A 20-year-old Waco man is being held in the McLennan County Jail on multiple charges after police say he threatened to kill his 22-year-old girlfriend if she did not agree to marry him.

Benjamin Ray McCary faces charges of aggravated assault family violence, assault family violence and unlawful restraint. He is being held on a total $13,000 bond for the charges.

Waco police say the incident happened throughout the day Saturday, March 29, at a home in the 2800 block of South University Parks Dr. The victim told police she was punched in the face, had her face slammed into a bathroom wall, grabbed by the neck and threatened with a glass candle holder.

She told police her live-in boyfriend said he would kill her if she did not agree to the marriage and he would not let her leave the apartment.

She did finally manage to escape, but police say she went back later to try and get some of her clothing, and was caught and beaten again. Police arrived and arrested McCary at the scene.
