Hail and winds batter Belton homes

BELTON, TX (KXXV) - Severe weather rocked Central Texas, pelting several cities with hail.

Belton was especially hit hard by golf-ball sized hail Friday afternoon. The high winds shattered car and house windows alike. Cody Jones' car window nearly shattered by the falling ice.

"All of a sudden you just hear this loud boom and there's hail flying every where. It's probably the craziest thing I've ever experienced here in Belton," Belton resident Cody Jones said.

One street in north Belton was on a hill. That meant all the homes facing west had shattered windows.

"It damaged pretty much everything that was outside," Dawn and her son were inside during the storm. She says the worst part about it was not knowing what was going on.

"I just knew there was glass flying completely through my house to the back door," she said.

It wasn't just windows shattered, blinds were torn apart and the front yards were a mess. Lawn lights broken, pots of plants broken and each garage door was riddle with dents. Thankfully, that was the worst of the damage.

"Nobody was hurt and so we're good. We'll get it fixed," Dawn said.

A News Channel 25 reporter and camera man were both driving in south Belton when the storm hit. To see the video of their drive, click here.
