Baylor student found dead with chemicals in car

WACO - UPDATE: Baylor has identified the 21-year-old Baylor student found dead in a car just outside of the Baylor campus yesterday as Joshua Partridge of San Antonio.

McLennan County Sheriff's deputies say a 21-year-old Baylor student is dead after committing suicide in his car just outside of the Baylor campus. Hazmat crews were called out to the scene where authorities found notes warning of a "biohazard inside," taped to the windows of a vehicle found near Waco Thursday morning.

Waco police, McLennan County Sheriffs Deputies and the Waco Fire Department responded to a report of a "man down" in a vehicle about 11:30 a.m., near University Parks Dr. and Donaldson Ln. Authorities arrived on the scene, and after inspecting the small 4-door sedan, they saw several notes taped inside the vehicle warning of a "biohazard inside," with computer generated pictures of the biohazard symbol.

Waco hazmat crews were called out as a precaution, to take the proper steps to check inside the vehicle. McLennan County Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon says they do not suspect foul play at this time and says an incident like this is bizarre.

"I have personally never seen this or ever heard of it, but I am being told that are internet sites that show these types of instructions for self inflicted deaths," Cawthon said.

Curt Donaldson, the witness who called police, says the green Toyota Corolla had been sitting behind his family's farm since Wednesday night. It wasn't until Thursday morning that he decided to approach the car and investigate.

"Once I got out of my truck and went over to look I started reading that stuff and I said man there is something, this is not right and especially when I had seen that one that said call hazmat," Donaldson said.

Donaldson says the car was foggy inside on Wednesday night, but when it cleared up Thursday morning he was able to see the student's body inside.

"I seen someone laying over. I just thought they were drunk and passed out or something. So I beat on the windows, nobody moved," Donaldson said. "I went over to where he was laying at and I beat on the windows there and he never moved and I see his lips look real white looking and I knew right then he was probably dead."

Donaldson says he had no intention of opening the car after seeing the warning labels taped all over the windows of the car.

"No, I wasn't about to open that door because there was a gray bucket in the back little plastic tub that had this yellowish, white looking chemical stuff in it. It thought it was vomit or something," Donaldson says.

Authorities say the body of a "young man" was found in the back seat of the vehicle. The name of the student will not be released until next of kin have been notified.
