Waco leaders seek input about on-street parking

WACO - If you think that RV parked outside your neighbor's house is a nuisance, you're not alone.  Waco city leaders are meeting Tuesday night at 6 p.m. to get input about on-street parking.
Waco police say they get a lot of complaints about boats, RV's, trailers, etc. being parked on city streets.  Some say it's a safety hazard.  Others just think it's an eye sore.   Either way, city leaders do want to address people's concerns.

The biggest concerns are when the large vehicles are parked on narrow streets or near intersections.  Of course many people feel they have the right to keep their boats, RV's, trailers and whatnot on the street.

But because of the large number of complaints over the years, a parking ordinance has been drafted for the city of Waco.  If passed, it would prevent people from parking their vehicles.  They could even be fined up to $500 dollars a day. But it wouldn't prohibit loading.

Sgt. Patrick Swanton with the Waco Police Department says, "Say if you're loading your boat or loading your camper, there's a time frame built in that you're fine.  That's good to do.  We don't expect people to walk two blocks to a parking lot where they put a trailer to load it for a camping trip."

The parking ordinance is merely being discussed at tonight's meeting.  No action will be taken.  If you'd like to weigh in, but can't make it to the meeting, contact Waco Police at (254) 750-7500 or contact your local council member.
