TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) - Police have arrested a 25-year-old Temple man who ran from police after officers tried to stop him in connection with an earlier hit and run accident.

Ryan Roepke faces a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle for leading police on a high speed chase on Feb. 27.

Temple officers responded to a hit and run accident on Feb. 27, and received a vehicle description for the suspect. While en route to the scene, a patrol officer spotted a vehicle matching the description in the 2300 block of Moore's Mill Rd.

The officer turned on his lights and sirens, and tried to stop the vehicle. The driver fled from the officer and reached reported speeds of more than 100 mph.

The officer lost sight of the driver for a short time as he turned onto a gravel road. The suspect's vehicle was found unoccupied outside an area home. The investigation identified the driver as Roepke.

The Bell County District Attorney's Office reviewed the case on Monday, March 17, and issued a complaint against Roepke. He was arrested by Temple officers on Tuesday.
