Longtime K-9 retiring from Waco PD

WACO - A longtime member of the Waco Police Department is calling it a career, and hanging up his collar.

The 9-year-old K-9 name Toro, was honored by the city council Tuesday afternoon after announcing his retirement. Toro has had a series of kidney failure and a partially torn ACL.

Toro's handler says he will now have to adjust to retirement life.

"Toro will be in a special case with his medical and stuff like that. We just try to make him as comfortable as we can, as long has he isn't in pain or any thing like that. Hopefully he will be around a couple more years," said Sgt. Chip Weiser, Toro's handler.

Sgt. Weiser says Toro will now live with him. Toro served Waco PD as a patrol and narcotics dog.

In his career, Toro tracked down drugs like meth, cocaine, and marijuana. He also apprehended three suspects.
